Maybe.. but, the club secretary at the time had no knowledge of any carp stockings, where they came from was a mystery. I always felt that they'd been in there a long time and that as the commons were all the long lean type, that the potential was limited. In all probability the fish that were there then had already reached something close to their maximum weight potential. Despite it's small size, I still view that common as one of my best fish ever.

I know a few people who have spent a lot of time looking on there and the biggest i have heard of anyone spotting is a mid-30, with most fish being upper-double or scraper 20 commons.
I know Pete Springate spent a lot of time looking whilst he was bream fishing, so i imagine he would have stayed on there had he seen anything big, rather than going back on Korda.

There was a low to mid twenty mirror in Carptalk a few years ago (about 5 maybe longer) that was reported from Broadwater, after a long pre-baiting program.

I love it when people profess to know exactly whats in a water of this size. Its a 100 acres surface area never mind the actual volume top to bottom of the place, its impossible to be totally correct with any assumption.
Are you gonna bark all day little doggy, or are you gonna bite?

100% right Edna, seen a few in there over the years, caught less, spotting carp in that size of water is never going to be easy, even if it was totally open and round... stick a line of islands in the middle, two separate clubs fishing it, and very few eyes scanning the lake, and it gets a bit awkward.

I think 200 acres is about right. Believe I'm right in saying that Sir Peter spent a lot of time on there and only ever caught bream and tench. I'm pretty sure he blanked on the carp.

Always heard em jumping on there whenever I fished harefield. Some proper lumps too.

However...that was years ago now and I know someone who had a 26 and a 32 from there.
Big fish of all species.....but very few and far between.

    Well worth fishing now too.......
thank your mother for the rabbits...

I live close by, and have fished almost all of the waters in the area, apart from Broadwater but, i do have a mooch around it every so often. I have sometimes got lucky and seen carp close in, the biggest i've personally seen would be around upper twenty, maybe scrapping thirty?
