Default ford focus limp mode ???

Right chaps...anyone had this at all or know of it ?

    My cars aparently gone into this mode....its 9k in 1st n 2nd gear..goes upto 20 mph....change to 3rd and and above all i go is 40mph...thats it.

Been looking all over and cant really find anything on a fix to the problem. Without taking it to a ford rip off merchant...anyone any ideas ?

I had a C Max that kept doing this intermittently.

Turned out to be the rubber gasket on the fuel filter (which had recently been changed) was twisted a bit so it wasn't creating a perfect seal.

Like I say, though, mine was intermittent - not permanent - so maybe something different with yours .

Agreed, but mine went back to Ford twice before I found someone else who fixed it.

The fault code was apparantly not specific enough.

A mate of mine had his Focus go into to limp mode.
I remember him telling me that he found a whole bundle of stuff about it on the web - seems it's not an uncommon problem and that there are many things that can cause it.

He checked the easy stuff first and on his Focus and it turned out to be something quite simple, a broken wire to some sort of sensor.
    I came, I saw, I played conkers.

    Update....

Diagnostic reader is showing a fault with the throttle body sensor. Plus others about the air flow sensors...to which it would do I guess considering the part of the fault ??

Gonna try and get a throttle body and fit that....then see what happens !

Clear all the faults if your reader can do that and then start it up and see what faults come back
Some could be old uncleared faults

    What models does this effect?
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.

    Well.......long story short..

I have literally stripped the wires out the engine now.......and found 1 wire that was basically stripped of its coating and only a few strands left connecting it to the push in plug into the coil pack !
Does anybody know how to fix it easily ? I know its probably a solder job but maybe a new wire loom that does the coil pack etc ?
Will look into that tomorrow cost wise etc, and then will get the limp mode sorted...as i now know is basically a re - set on the computer

    Things are looking up !

Unless the wire on the coil pack wasn't the problem and you've now disturbed something that was OK ! .................................

    Well.....f me sideways....

We have a running car !

Like i say.i stripped all the wires back and found a wire to the coip pack that had another piece of tape wrapped round it that shouldnt have been there....
After taking the tape off i found it to be not even connected, so all i done was strip more coating off and solder this together and applied some shrink tube to stop it becoming loose.done this with all the wires going to the coil pack and would you believe it....its never run so good !!!!

Inhave put the lighter down.......for now...lol
