Was literally about to start this thread too! It surely cannot be Black Spot from Wingham although somebody else suggested Elphicks, good shout.

Just seen a picture of the fish - first impression after a quick glimpse was that it's a hideous looking thing.

However I'm now lead to believe that it's spawnbound which isn't something you'd normally associate with fish at this time of year but Mother Nature can be a strange thing - the Trent was throwing up spawnbound barbel around 4 weeks ago!

Fish reabsorb spawn they don't drop. Fish dying because they are full of spawn is a myth.

"Problems start to occur if the physiological processes for the release of eggs are put in motion when the environmental conditions change suddenly. This could be a drop in temperature or oxygen depletion. These changes in environment put a huge amount of stress on the fish which can cause heath problem. If the eggs don't get fully eliminated from the body they can begin to 'go off' and cause bacterial infections which can be fatal."

So that's a bacterial infection killing the fish then.

Which part of egg impacting leading to bacterial infections and septicaemia aren't you understanding ?
No egg impacting, no bacterial infection or septicaemia, it's pretty straight forward. Or are you being so pedantic you are saying it isn't the eggs themselves that are the problem ?
peoples lack of knowledge on their chosen quarry never ceases to amaze me tbh.

Have a read of what I first posted. It's perfectly correct. If you want to be lumped in with the lazy masses then by all means.
