    Default Daiwa Emblem Spod Reel

Having had one for just over a week, the reel handle snapped! Luckily the tackle shop replaced it no problem but has anybody else had the same problem? I do not think it was anything major that made it happen, but why oh why is the reel handle such a weak plastic?!

Would be interested in others experience as I really like the reel, hopefully this one will stay in one piece.

    Regards

I've had mine since they first came out - it's had some hammer and I've had no problems with it.

No issue with mine as yet and a pal had three 30s several years ago on them and was happy with them. I’ve put mine through their paces and have only good things to say about them.

Got a pair on spod and marker rods and never had an issue and apart from putting WD speed cap on marker they've been spot on.
    I'd hit that !!!!!!

Thank you all for replying to this, without a doubt a lovely reel. I must have been unlucky!

I have also had these reels since they were introduced with no issues, however, I have heard they are prone to 'stiffening up', even seizing totally. This is caused by dipping the reel in the water to wet the braid before casting which allows water into the internals which then reacts with the grease. This problem can be eliminated by having the reel's internals cleaned and serviced and the grease replaced with a waterproof alternative. I would suggest Garry at Custom Reels, his work is spot on.

Had 2 since they were first released.
One has an annoying problem of the reel handle hitting the bail arm as you’re reeling in.
I never dip the reel in the water to wet the braid, preferring to just get a cup of water and pour that over the spool.

I’ve read about the above fault. I’d return mine for one that worked.

Are these reels suitable for use as a "proper reel" ?
