Default Saving Marlborough Pool - Oxford Angling Preservation Group

    Hello all,

Not a regular poster and usually keep myself to myself when it comes to my fishing, so firstly 'hello'.

Marlborough Pool, Oxfordshire - Once the 'go to' place to fish for carp! The place is steeped with history. Myself and a group of other anglers with a passion for the place are doing all we can to ensure it has a future.

The Pool is only 100m from the River Evenlode, which terminates aroung 700m downstream as it enters the Thames. There's nothing but a cattle field between the 2 rivers and the lake. Very comfortable ground for predators to make their way over during the winter and pick off what it likes! For the past 5 winters the Pool has been attacked. With only a small amount of funds released from the club, an effort unfortunately unfit for purpose was attempted, and failed.

Well... we're doing it again! This time bigger, better, more help, more kindness. We budgeted 6000 for materials and plant hire, with the work being down by anglers. We started fund raising in April this year and have hit just over 4000 via various methods: Selling off donations, raffles, even hosting a campsite for a local event (Cassington Bike Night) We're now on our final push.

On Saturday February 17th 2018, Oz Holness has kindly agreed to come to Oxford for a talk night. A newly formed collection of anglers have formed the Oxford Angling Preservation Group in order to formally host this. We have an excellent stock of raffle prizes which will be drawn on the night, with the top prize a week on the Ebro for 2, courtesy of Catfish Capers, valued at 1200! Our aim is to breach the 6000 goal by the end of this night, and have plenty left over for the bailiffs to invest back into the Pool and replenish what's been lost.

Are you interested in attending this? Maybe just some raffle tickets? (We will draw the raffle LIVE on Facebook so you don't need to be there) Please follow the Oxford Angling Preservation Group to check out the list of prizes and other information via this link:

And for the 'An Eve with Oz Holness - The Oxford Social'

If there's any other way you think you can help us out, please contact me via the Oxford APG page. If you don't use Facebook then here will do, I'm just not very active so may not see it for a while.

    Thanks for your time.

Good luck with this. Shame the club couldn't be bothered to do anything like this to save Dorchester when it had the chance.

Cheers, Waterways. We're doing what we can, it's best not to waste energy trying to figure out where it went wrong, we're now doing what's required. You won't believe the resistance we've faced, either...

I can well imagine. It never fails to surprise me how backwards most of the Oxfordshire clubs seem to be. Seriously though good luck, it's about time something like this happened for the local carp/specialist anglers.

Wasn't there an issue around planning permission for the fencing at Dorchester or am I talk BS again ? Has anyone contacted Embryo reference help with fencing ? I was taking to one of their guys recently and we discussed Dorchester and he seemed to think there was resistance somewhere within the association.
