Default Manilla as a barbel bait

Anyone used it as a barbel bait?

Thinking of switching over to it as a winter bait but also thinking of having a few sessions on the Trent for carp / barbel. Not sure how a nut based bait is effective for barbs though

Having never used a nut based bait for barbel I can't help unfortunately. My previous favorite has been Malarkey from ABS. 2 little 10mm baits on a hair has worked a treat for me in the past but run out of those so going to give Rock Lobster a go this winter. Other excellent baits I've used and caught on would be ASAP from Glynn at Three Rivers Rolling and Maple8 (no longer available). If I wasn't getting a bite on one of those then the old faithful lump of luncheon meat liberally coated with chilli powder would my alternative. If time wasn't an issue I'd maybe have a play around with something different on one rod for an hour here and there but I generally use whatever I have left over from carp fishing through the summer.
