    Default Old Haunts

    Hi All,

Just wondered if any of you have returned to old haunts to find that
they are either shadows of there former selves or are still thriving
    as you remember them?

Would be interesting to hear if anyone else fished the Peterborough
Electricity Cut with certain folk and others back in the 70s with
glass fibre rods and trusty Mitchell 300s? Remember those early days
of June when those fish spawned in the warm waters of the "cut", vivid
electric blue backs out of the water? Oh and don't forget the rats, as
if you could? Damn things got everywhere and betide you if you use
your loaf of bread night fishing. Nothing worse than waking, turning
your torch on and finding "Ratty" munching away merrily inches from
your face. And that sweet smell of sugarbeet wafting across the
    Nene... Lovely!
Big fish, a couple we thought at the time could have beaten Williams
river record. Later years brought the power station to a shut down
and then we followed these fish into the main river where I hear they
can still be caught on the "North Bank" towards the "Dog in a Doublet"
    sluice?

After nearly 50 years I had the chance to go visit that particular old
site this weekend to find that the "cut" as we used to call it is a
sorry shadow of its old self. The basin looking back towards the old
hot water outlet has gone/filled in and the stretch leading from the
bridge down to the outlet to the Nene is nothing more than a stagnant
    canal.

Happy days but no longer. Is this the case with some of your old favourites?

    Regards.

Fishing on a lake i used to fish years ago this season , went for a wander last season and noticed the fish have piled on the weight , water is clearer these days and the fish much bigger so in this case i'm glad i've returned , one of the current bigguns was 22lb when i fished it over 10 years ago , doubled in size since then .......
