Default The one that got away ( after it was landed! )

had a nasty one at the weekend , i caught a long dark mid to upper 20 common , was a real peach , anyway i secured it in the net using my wychwood net station ( used it for years trouble free ) whilst i set up tripod and camera ,i had just got sorted and turned to go and collect the fish only to see the fish do a full on free willy jump out the net and it was gone! laughing now but at the time i was proper annoyed lol , last time i use the net station that's for sure!!

    anyone had similar happen ?

    Yep....

Well.my brother did.....it was at mantautiers in france few years ago.my brother dont go fishing a lot with me but we had a holiday abroad and was told about the grassies in there going to mid 30s...well......my brother hooked and landed a grassie that looked pretty big to be fair...and while he was already celebrating the capture...calling his mates round to look at it, as it was his biggest ever fish, i told him to calm down as it hadnt done a thing yet.....just come in like a bream basically and it laid in the net as one..!

Then.......wallop.....it lept out the net in one fail swoop of its tail and i just stood there in disbelief at what had just happened...

Needless to say...he was gutted and to this day he still says i let it go !! Lol

I said it was a grassie......

Probably had more grass hidden in the bucket of hemp than what was in the net....

Me and a friend took part in a RMC social on Kingsmead 1 back in the day (arrange on this forum in the good old days). Must be about 15 years ago. Most of the lake struggled for the weekend and me and my mate were lucky enough to land a fish each at the same time. Mine was a scrapper 20 and his was MUCH bigger, if it wasn't 30 it wasn't far off. At the time this was a massive fish for us!

After picking all of the leaches off the fish we left them both in separate nets whilst the scales and camera stuff was sorted out. I was holding the net with my fish and someone else was holding the net with my mates fish whilst he was getting the stuff ready for the photos. Whilst admiring both fish in the net, i looked over and saw half of my mates fish poking out of the net (the net had been rolled down but the drawstring was not pulled in when rolled up so was just hanging down in the water). I tried my best to scoop his fish up with my net but it seems I had used all my luck up catching my fish and it was just out of reach. The look on my mates face when he came over and his fish was gone......not to mention the chap who was holding his net!!! He was a member on here years ago, I am sure some may remember him, I think he went on to catch a few out of wraysbury and wrote a few articles on it. Not sure if i should name and shame lol. Mr R... let any fish go recently? lol

Forgot to mention that we are both positive this fish is now the one called Starry's which now does 50lb! Obviously we cant be 100% sure as there are no photos lol but that one still hurts him

Tell you what did happen that week...going slightly off topic !

I caught a 37lb common off top.....doing photos and after putting it back i realised i didnt put a new film in the camera...guess what i said to that !
Also.....this will upset some and some will laugh...

One of brothers mates who went had 2 x 40s off the back of my spot........ok.......i think as he was fishing a different area.....but then found out that when i went to get new bait out the freezer it had somehow gone down a fair bit....

It then emerged he was using MY bait and catching on it....

Fuming...and i told him he some sort of ..nt !!
