    Default Shimano 5500 xtd

I have seen the 14000s.....just wondering how big the above reels are compared to the 14000s ?
Also.....are the washers needed as well ?

The washers are needed yes. I have them in mine and without the drag is clunky. Jerky and unreliable. With them its silky smooth and a dream to use

Where does one get these washers? I have had my 14000's for almost two months and would almost be perfect with an improved drag!

I've got the ice washers. I will say though you have to keep them clean otherwise they lock up bad! Also ask gary at custom reels about the guy that lost his rod due to an ice washer.........that said I do love mine and as long as kept clean they work very well

What do these actually do? I have the 5500XTB's, had then for a good number of years now and they are as smooth as they were when new, I dont find the clutches clunky at all.

I've just bought the 5500s. They are a fair bit smaller than the 14000 version.
Pink reel seats on your rods?!

Do the ice washers speed up the drag by much?

Would they be a suitable reel for barbel fishing?

Probably thommo. If you like the drag on the spool then fine mate.decent size for barbel rods.i prefer a baitrunner type reel for barbelling.but a good choice of reel for barbel mate

i find the reel body size similar to that of the ss2600, but the spool size is much larger
