I imagine its because there is almost zero chance that labour can win right now and it will give May carte blanch to do a hard brixit if necessary with no interference from the remoaning lib dems and the few labour and tory rebels too.

ps. but of course she first has to get a 2/3rds majority in parliament to be able to call an early election, should be interesting.

Labour MP's voting for a snap general election will be like Turkeys voting for Christmas surely?

Interesting to see how the Scottish vote on this, will Sturgeon survive?

Clearly doesn't fancy standing on the terms of the actual Brexit deal 1 year after leaving in 2020. Self indulgent and self preservation spring to mind by May and Co when they've already a majority Government.
Appalling politics definitely not vital or in the interest of the country.

Mrs May will you call snap General Election?

June 2016 - “There should be no general election until 2020.”

October 2016 - what markets want is stability and a general election would give them instability.”

November 2016 - “Our position has been clear that there shouldn’t be an election until 2020"

March 7th 2017 - “It’s not going to happen. It’s not something she plans to do or wishes to do.”

March 20th 2017 - “There is no change in our position on an early general election. There is not going to be a general election.”

    April 17th 2017 - Tories have a 21 point lead over Labour.

April 18th 2017 - For the good of the country I have called for a General Election.

Nobody gives away their strategy Lee, although many of the remainers wanted just that. To be honest it's risky for her but I can see why she's done it. Too many people out to cause trouble for Brexit and undermine May making a success of it. I imagine the Liberals will do well, but voting for the Liberals on the basis that you didn't agree with the Brexit result is complete madness imo.

foregone conclusion surely, labour are unelectable and lib dems are a joke, corbyn will be out, hope diane abbott gets the nod to be leader as that will be labour stuffed even worse than before, but fancy kier starmer might end up as leader.

The general election will be the end of Labour.

This is probably to give a firmer footing for May and the government to be stronger for the Brexit negotiations, to wipe out Labour and also to give Scotland a chance to curb the SNP without the need for 2nd referendum.

A win, win, win all round

A bigger Tory majority makes the swivel eyed loons in her own party less important you're quite correct CA. Far less likely to undermine her on the practical issues of Brexit they dont like without doubt.

    1 thing is for sure
Mr Corbyn will be gone on the 9th.
Probably with their biggest defeat ever
It would also be nice to see the end of the moron Sturgeon

He may be gone by then but the system that Labour adopt to elect a leader will ensure a similar loon gets elected. It will be carnage !

    Probably Mr T
But i personally believe that Teresa May is doing a fantastic job and at the end of the day it was Labour that brought this country to its knees and they would only do the same thing again and as for the Libs well enough said

pps if i was cynical i could say it May have had something to do with this:

Tory MPs face being prosecuted for electoral fraud while they are fighting the upcoming general election campaign
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a7689801.html

Then theres labour, who no longer stand for the working man but are purely the lackeys of the unions and when corbyn goes they will still not have a one man one vote for their new leader as the unions will still get blocks of votes and be able to swing the election of their man/woman.

The lib dems are now neither liberal or democrats and should just change their name.

    The greens, well, kakakakakakaka

Like a said it should be interesting

So it's in the national interest for May to call a snap election, but she won't give the public the chance to see her defend and lay out her position in televised debates.Just another spineless careerist. What a maggot.
