Default Contact from new members.. Beware!

Just recenty we have had a few new members join and the first thing they want to do is post on the for sale board or try and get more information on something being sold or wanted to sell you something that you have advertised on the wanted section.

There is a reason we have instated a rule regarding a minimum post count of 50 before they can post on the for sale section of this forum. However, they can still send PMs to you. My advise is not to deal with them if they are trying to sell you something that you have put up in the "Wanted" section of the forum at this stage unless it's face to face with cash passing hands. Making a payment up front has seen a few of our members ripped off with nothing that they can do about it.

I have deleted a lot of replies, these would not of been seen by any forum members due to the 5 post rule that sees all new posts being monitored by mods before free posting, this was done to avoid spammers getting though but has now shown it is good for monitoring this problem.

Over the last couple of months a good few new members have been joining just to reply to adverts in the for sale / wanted section asking details and making silly offers for items or saying that they have that item that is advertised in the wanted section and offering it at silly prices as well. If they have not got 50 posts they shouldn't be posting in that section and will get a message up when they try to post, it is then that they will contact you by PM if they have not already done so.

We are doing our best to keep an eye on this and all mods have been informed regarding this problem but it is down to you if you are going to deal with them. We would also loke some feedback from you if you get PMs from new members. Some I am sure are genuine, but others may not be. If it doesn't feel right, the price is well cheap then perhaps there is an issue with that member.

Simple, hide both FS and Wanted til people have access.

We dont need people who are only coming here to peddle their wares.

carpforum do this, you cannot see the for sale section until you have been given a 'thumbs up', which you get once you have about 100 posts and the mods have all your details.
on pikers pit, you can see the for sale section, but you cannot post on it or even contact other forum members until you get 50 posts

I agree new members shouldn't be able to see the F/S boards, until 50 sensible posts have been done, most members on here are here for the love of carping, not to be ripped off

I agree, to stamp it out stop people from seeing the FS until they have enough posts. If they are genuine then they will stick it out.
The site is not only for carpers Jeff, us specialist anglers like it as well !!!

    Hi All
As you can see my post count isn't that many, i have pm'd someone recently about a wanted item I have had sat around for ages. I didnt receive a reply.

I wouldn't like to think he thought I was trying to rip him off although i do see the need to protect people.

I have also purchased on here via pm with no problems and would miss not having access to the classifieds

Less than a post a month isn't common though.

If you have bought/sold then I guess your on the trusted sellers list?

Your clearly not here goes a quick buck and could easily quadruple your monthly postings

Youve doubled your monthly post count already, just on this one topic, could easily squeeze a couple more out too

Hell if thats you in your avatar you could easily stick that in the "no carp" piccy thread and gain another notch on the post counter

Name and shame em thats what I think we should be doing.

I had one of these on a for sale item....said he would take them and then no prizes for guessing.......Never materialised total tyre-kicker. I knew anyway based on his post count of 1.

Minimum posts gets my vote too.

I appreciate there are exceptions, but trust is hard won, greatly respected, and highly prized amongst us.

I totally agree I trust most of you guys on here have dealt with some more than once. I like to think its a tight little community and with that comes trust . You have to have spoke with some one regular to gain that trust
I try to get on daily and see who's about and who's posted what .
I think that if people have to put a minimum amount of posts this will help stop any issues

The fact that mods can reset people's post count if they take liberties

For the buyer, the simplest solutions is always to either meet up and inspect the goods in person, or stomach the paypal fees, which does allow you to get money back.
