Hasn't the bank space been reduced due to the new houses??
It aint the size of your rod, its how you dangle it in the water !

The mushroom farm is long gone, thank Christ! I remember when I was a carp mad teen, the wind would push the fish out of the main lake towards the back bay and through the gap - almost a guaranteed bit if you could get into the gap swim as it turned. Unfortunately, the wind also pushed the smell from the mushroom farm straight into the same swim....

You were probably fishing it around the same time as us, circa 95/99? Had some good trips sometimes 4/5 in a day. Great surface fishing in the back bay I remember taking 3 in an evening once, all doubles best my mate had a 17lb common. Nice scaley mirrors and chunky commons.

Also remember peering through the trees at the big lake behind...

They were some lovely fish in there, and it sounds like we were there at the same time at some point.

I used to look at the big lake too - went back a few years later and managed a couple of the smaller ones in there for a few months very hard fishing.

Incidentally, has anyone ever had any chub from swan? Being naughty young anglers, me and a mate used to fish the Blackwater for them, and probably put two or three dozen across into Swan...?

I did yes! About 3lb or so. From the first swim on the far bank as you came around from the car park. Lol!

Swan used to have massive roach in it and chub back in the mid 80's when we fished it as kids.

I literally had it to myself in between no one owning the fishing rights about 1990/92 (a load of carp suddenly appeared in there) and used to sneak in and walk around with a floater rod (the smell is coming back to me as a type this......eeeuurrgh). It was all one lake then and my best day was 37 carp off the top up to doubles.

It was a couple of year later that John Hof was the baliff, great days!

I remember catching a chub from the big lake and as soon as I took my hands out a pike of what must have been around 20lb had it! That was late 90's if I remember, I also had my first 20 out of there and my mate had the lake record which was 25lb at that time
