The original SBS (Specialist Bait Supplies) was owned and run by Martin Kowell out of Gidea Park, Romford in the early 80's. Fella in a wheel chair, run out of his mum's house. Had a diving acident. Went round there a few times in my formative years.

It was quality kit, I loved the Cornish Ice Cream and they did a rather good qulity Kelp Powder if I remember correctly.

I loved eating anything with strawberyy jam EA in it! Lovely blend.

Used a lot of their gear - the frankfurter sausage was a classic, especially in their original ready mixed range as well as the flavour itself. The original Quest Mix was also successful for me, especially with Strawberry Jam or Apricot, mixed with Cornish Ice Cream.

those ea flavours were superb for mixing together to come up with something a bit different. Plum was a corker.

I sometimes wonder if anyone started doing all the ingredients again such as the casiens etc in kilo bags again, through retailers, whether more people would start bait making again?

22-01-2007, 15:54
strawberry jam ea was a superb flavour used to coat all my hookbaits in it ,and had some great days on it summer and winter.may still have a bottle of it in my rucksack.used to get it mail order straight from them.

Martin Kowal was a guy who really knew his stuff.

Their milk protein base mixes were really top notch, as was that Bunspice EA flavour. Very fond memories.

Does anybody know what Martin is up to these days?

And I dread to think what the quality of SBS gear is like these days.

Hi men ,
You can all give examples of stuf they did , but top of the list was " sickly butter". It was what it said on the bottle. Smelt like the aftermath of a night out on the beer . I caulght everywhere on it , used a large bottle to the last drop .

This was used with a base mix with added blue cheese powder. Double bait on the hair , second bait was richworths rum + raisen. The combo was unbeliveable .Rum + ras available still , underated , worth a look http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
