View Full Version : Committee's - Dont You Just Love 'Em...

Recieved the Farnham AGM newsletter - not quite sure why as I'm not even a member this year. Had a look through anyway and one part made me smile:

Quote from newsletter:
' Motions From Members
Several were received regarding a capping of the membership, relaxation of the bye-law banning alcohol, stopping the use of bait boats at Lodge Pond and introducing a Night Ticket system on Lodge Pond. Lively discussion ensued, bit none of the motions were adopted'

Good to see that the art of democracy is alive and well in Farnham. What is the point...

The problem with that particular committee is that half of them don't even go fishing very often, so they are not in touch with what is going on these days.

Many of the decisions are voted on because of various alliances with each other, and not on the merits of what is being proposed.

If they don't like the person who is making the motion, then it will not be voted for by the committee, if they are one of the committee then there is a good chance it will go through. It's democratic, but not always for the good of the club.

i got that farnham newsletter or whatever it was too....threw it straight in the bin !!!!!
these guys are muppets, i got a warning on my ticket when i fished their waters a couple of years ago on breaking a rule that didn't even exist http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif
asked the idiot of a bailiff to point it out to me but he couldn't and still went on to say continuously that i was breaking the rules.....and that one more warning and i'd be up before the committee - oh no, save me, the committee !!!
the same bailiff a couple of weeks later passed me on the bank, i'd just been to the shops to get some milk for a brew and been no more than 10 mins. He stopped me and told me next time i do that i'd have to pack all my gear away and move it 20 yrds back from the lake http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif jesus christ......if i had stopped walking he might have needed surgery to get my ticket out of his a##e

I don't fish farnham waters any more.........

Committies ehhh.I call them the 2nd generation of HITLERS,. Only on one of my lakes though, lol. I have 2 Guest tickets a year, and cannot take a m8 as a guest cause he is a face on the circuite. 2 bricks enclosing on his personel life came to mind, but then i saw sense.

the trouble with some clubs they have to many rules that are not needed , it takes the fun out of fishing and chilling.....and so there are some baillifs on waters that just wanna throw their weight around because they think its their water and i think its such a shame..... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The best way round it is to get on the committee yourself and change things ,that way you lot don,t have to keep whinging.

16-02-2005, 08:49
i know the bailfiff you mean he is rude and condesending , clearly making up the rules as he goes along . http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif SAAB

[/ QUOTE ] Why should anybody have to get on to the committee to have an opinion that is valued? The whole point of these AGM's is for the members to put their opinions accross and make suggestions for improvement.

What you are saying is that there is no point in doing this unless you are on the committee yourself. Not everybody has the time or inclanation to do this but as paying customers have the right to be heard.

I took the best option a couple of years ago and voted with my wallet - and am now on a Syndicate which costs substantially more but has none of the bull involved with club committees.

I do not have any time or respect for officious committee members or bailiffs with inflated ego's who have to have their little bit of power on the lake or on the committee because they dont have any elsewhere in their lives.

Please note that I have met a lot of good bailiffs so dont want to tar you all with the same brush - just referring to a select few that I come accross during my one year on Farnham waters.

well put matt http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif its true wot you say ...fishing is supposed to be fun ,
man and nature, not back stabbing and grief..there is a lot of good bailifs ..but there are some who use there power to far ,but im not mocking bailifs ,its those narks who decide wot you can and wot you cant do, yes theres rules ,but to strangle the paying angler is a shame .
Thats why rmc would be a first choice of club they listen to the angler ,
through my own experiance http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In the same newsletter, they asked if any one had any suggestions for next year.

16-02-2005, 14:21
Relate this to the syndicate thread running,WHY ARE POSTS BEING DELETED......and some might now understand why RMC are good value for money.

Good Points that you make, but voting with your wallet didn't help those who came after our is it that you did'nt care any way and surely by being on the committee you could have got rid of the krap baliffs which you dislike so much .

Like catching carp you have to be in it to win it .

If I had truly loved the waters and being a member of the club then I would have been more inclined to fight for it. Truth is I didn't so wasn't a great loss to me. The committee and club management was one thing, the sheer number of anglers on the bank was another. Their waters are simply overcrowded as well (with the possible exception of River Valley).

No - it didn't help anybody else by me leaving, TBH so what? Everybody has the same choice and most guys who go fishing cant be 4rsed with the politics of it to get involved with committees and the like. I'm sure that they will either live with it or, like me, move on to better things.

I strongly feel that Farnham do have a fantastic set of waters which will never reach their full potential, which really is a shame.
