OK, I was chatting with a mate the other week and we were talking about what we do in winter regards location, not so much bait and rigs but once we have these sorted and rock up at the lack. Most of the below is subconscious / second nature and a lot of it totally useless but I did try and order it, what do you guys do when you rock up mid winter? My fishing is exclusively short days in winter so moving / trying different stuff whilst blanking is an easy option.

• See carp actively feeding, bubbling or rolling
• Known, proven and areas I am super confident the fish will visit
• See carp activity even if not particularly feeding
• See fish activity, my theory on an iced day is at least it’s some activity around my baits
• Areas that reliable fellow anglers have tipped you off on.
• Natural features, a spring, water running into the lake etc.
• Out of the cold wind / where the suns spends most the day
• Casting and dragging a bare lead along and finding that slight difference (gravel to silt, off weed etc.)
• Snags / island margins
• Where the ducks are sitting as I figure they might know something
• Away from other anglers
• The extremes of the lake (deepest and shallowest water available)
• The pub chuck, usually at about 4pm and often the one that rips off ;0)

Near the car. Then, when i've blanked, am cold and totally ****ed off, its not far to trudge with the gear.

Trying to get my head around my syndicate water in the winter. Average depth of 30ft and deepest parts 60ft. It fishes well some winters and not at all others. No ones ever caught a fish on a zig either, but I'm sure if you gave it a proper go zigs would be the one. It's a big water though so finding them could be an issue. Especially with so much water volume.

Use a castable fish finder and hope the signal is a carp !

Blow it out Till spring.get some brownie points. Creep out again in spring when fish start moving.
