upto you mate, but a couple of my mates did very well with boats. the weed as with all the pits in the area can be horrendous for weed summer time so a boat is very helpful even to just land fish!

Quite nice to have a look from the boat every now and again, but i wouldn't bother unless you got days in front of you, The fish in there are very easily spooked, they won't hang around when you go over them in the boat.I've messed up a few chances by going out.
Every one on there seems to use one, so it's gotta be the biggest edge not using one. Plus, those solid boats a really noisy,

You'll need a boat for the weed come early summer.

do they allow inflatable boats or do they need to be hard boats?

Use what you want on there mate, although everyone that had an inflatable has sold it to get a Sportyak. One thing I will say is get a good life jacket, some of the lads on there have a buoyancy-aide which are no where near as safe.
