Hi M8,
Nerys is your girl - her and her boyfriend Dave fish it every week from Friday - Sunday, so they know it better than most. I'll give you a starter though:

Entering the lake via the main car park gate you enter the Sandhurst lake on the Easterly bank. As you stand by the immediate bank you look the length of the lake. At about 12-13 acres the lake has an average depth of 4-6 foot at this end of the lake. The 4/5swims in on this bank give you access to numerous gravel areas between 5 & 130 yrds range and favoured marginal spots including the 'No Fishing' bank - Tyson has given himself up twice to residents of the 'Car Park' swim, once from approx 30yrds directly out in front and once off the 'No Fishing' bank.

Turning right you have a short walk before the turning left and up the Northern no fishing bank. You then reach the Pipes swim - a favoured haunt and the scene of more than 1 or 2 captures. The next 3 swims before the island are all productive at various times with the last before the island giving up a 24.5lb'er this last wekend from the channel running between the main bank and the island.

Next up are the 2 island swims - favoured by some shunned by others but the scene of various captures since being opened as swims last year - the big casters will be able to reach the infamous plateau from the left hand swim - as they can from the a number of places including the the Pipes, Second Pipes, and the Car Park if you can REALLY chuck. again to this point you are averaging 4 - 6 foot in depth.

Immediately after the island is what's generally referred to as the Baillifs - consisting of 3/4 actual swims - absolutely brill social swim!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Leave the Baillifs and continue on your anticlockwise journey and you round onto the westerly bank. There are four swims at this end lake and was the area where Viv gained his fishduring last years qualifying event. The depth of the lake at this end is deeper with an average of 6 - 8 foot and the odd hole or 2 where depths of up to 11 foot can be found.

A short walk further and you reach the second carpark and site for the Sandhurst [email protected]

Nerys knows this bank infinitely better than me so I'm going to leave this one for her http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bait wise a bit of NRG goes in but most of the recent fish have been had on yellow baits! One of the regulars and most consistent catchers reguarly catches on artificial maize used in conjunction with a method mix.

Worth a trip down b4 the event one weekend to tap up the 'locals' - amazing how large quantities of lager and cider will help!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The BACC Carnival gonna be back in town huh!!! Oh boy.....

Last years placed swims were 19, 26/27 (islands) and 31(Pipes) I think, with 4 (car park) and 11 (palace - Chilly) in 4th and 5th.... from memory there was a 100lb+ of fish from each of the top three swims.... there or there abouts anyway...

Viv, I guess you'll need a new tea boy eh honey!!!

Like Paul says, get yourself down for a session at the weekends, when one, two or most of the bailiff crew can normally be found drifting about on site... hard to say at this stage what April will bring... depends on how cold the frost gets and how much weed dies, or doesn't die that is!!

Its not been fishing terribly consistantly at the moment, there are fish coming out though.... at all sorts of times too.. Funky had a nice 24.12 mirror the weekend, at 4am in the margins, and one was lost Saturday 6am.... and that was it for this weekend.... but there have been daylight takes too..

baitwise... well....have moved right of the boillie approach recently... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Looking lovely over there this morning in the snow as the sun came over the trees..... light north/east winds... slight ripple on the water... loving it!!!!!

Best thing about this venue, Dave......anything goes!! Single baits did me well as did the method. All kinds of baits too, from various particles, pellets & boilies including homemade ones.
Don't be scared of the weed.....use your experience of fishing in it...it's where they live!

Lets not foget though, like all lakes, the fish don't like the pressure and the lines!
One of the better qualifiers though.

Yep was certainly interesting last year down there...

don't know how well it did compared to the other lakes in the qualifiers, but for sandy it fished its nuts off!!!!!

I seem to remember that there were around 64 lines in the water that weekend, which on an 11 acre, essentially squarish lake is a hell of a lot.... especially seeing as I don't think the lake had ever seen it quite that busy! What all the Marshalls, Sky-daisies, and everyone else down there, the disturbance was just incredible.... it was SOOOO nice once everyone had gone again, sunday night we were the last down there I think.... the silence was deafening! (& heavenly)

but I think with so much pressure from all sides, and with the big chuck brigade hounding the centre and plateau, there must have literally been nowhere the fish couldn't have been got at from, maybe thats why so many came out, nowhere left to hide! They were certainly still on the feed that weekend.

When you look at the results and the swims that they came from, you can pretty much see that the whole lake was covered...

Pipes (31) and 19 which were 1st and 2nd are at opposite ends of the lake, and 3rd and 4th, 26/27 (island) and 11 (palace) are also opposite each other, but if 31 and 19 are at 12O'clock and 6O'clock say, then the palace and islands are at 3O'clock and 9O'clock respectivly, so they were coming out all over!

What dates is it this year guys?

Viv,

You must be the only person that feels that he was let down by his partner's prowess & performance...... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck on the 'home ground'!!
I'm guessing on Lewis's prediction too.............

I must admit Viv, I was completely gob smacked at your choice of partner for last year, It was no surprise at all that you had to catch every single one of your qualification carp yourself, as the partner in question fished it solid for about 4 months prior to the qualifier and caught around 3 fish in that time, truely amazing.

Any way.... do do do de dooo do do do de dooo de dooo dooo da da da de daa daaaa......Steptoe and Son, CLASSIC http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can here it now, 'Arold....'Arold, have you caught another one 'Arold. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
