6lb 02oz, found it myself. Same area, might be possible I guess, a massive fish if it is.

Have you noticed how Perch are starting to become the new Carp and seems to be in the in thing to fish for.

Whats the deal with fox Digi's People, take it some of you have had bad experiences with them? What scales do most of you use for perch, Chub, Roach etc?

Psyclops
30-12-2008, 13:02
Don't use digi scales.

Was in france few years ago and a guy shouted for photos of a 50.02 common.
When the usual crowd gathered every angler just stared in disbelief at what could only have been a mid 40 max.
He swore blind it was weighed correctly and produced his fox digis.
And then refused to weigh it again:confused:

No doubt others on here have differing stories but I'm not convinced on them, heard too many inaccuracies.

Stick to Reubens:thumbs:

7lb 5oz is a BIG step up...

1lb 3oz on top of the current record.... :suspect: I'll be a skeptic until we see piccies!

Thats fair enough mate like you say everyone has different experiences. When you say stick to reubens i take it you mean the smaller type reubens similar to the avons, never seen anyone using the big reubens that most use for Carping, always thought they werent really sensitive enough for the smaller species. A couple of years back when i started fishing for Chub on the thames i bought those smaller type reubens which i thought were fine until i was fishing with a few others who have fished for Chub on the thames for years now. I caught a Chub that looked to be over 5lb when weighed on the reubens it was saying over 7lb after weighing it on 2 different sets of fox digi's they both said 5lb 5oz. Since then ive heard plenty of similar stories about those small reubens. Also all the guys i know fishing for Perch, Chub etc use digi's including Dave Ball. I cant see many doubting the amount of Seven pound Chub and double figure Tench hes caught over the years.

NEILZ
30-12-2008, 13:30
I completely agree with you about this Seven pound Perch sounding suspect but you cant blame the scales for that. It could be several reasons inc not zeroing properly, not taking the weight of the wet sling off or just an angler kidding himself, wanting to beleive its 7lb, for publicity or whatever.

I dont work for Fox by the way!! lol

NEILZ

Sorry to go on about this, have only just read the piece on this 7lb Perch. The guy actually asks if there is such thing as a Perch record!!! Now that to me says the guy isnt majorly in to his angling and could explain a misweighed fish or even some exaggeration to the fishes weight. But at the same time i accept that anyone with a rod out and bait on the hook could catch a record fish, but still..sounding suspect already.
Also to psyclops, you say the guy refused to re weigh the big common in front of you all, that again sounds more like the angler lying in the 1st place rather than the scales being wrong.

How can you imply that Reubens are only accurate in larger figures; which you imply, carp are larger than perch, but reubens can only weigh carp efficiently? :dissapoint:

DeanOr

No problems with Reubans weighing smaller fish

Exactly my thoughts Dean!

NEILZ
30-12-2008, 15:15
Shrop firstly i didnt imply anything i simply was saying i always thought the large dial reuben specimen hunter scales werent particularly sensitive for smaller species such as perch and chub and more suited to carp, cats, large bream and tench etc. secondly i never said the smaller reubens (avon size) werent sensitive enough for the smaller species ive mentioned, simply that i dont trust them after a problem i had with them and problems ive heard other people have had with them. Anyways its a festive time of year, a time to be jolly and not a subject worth arguing over (i probably shouldnt have started it! lol) Happy new year to you all

What size do perch go on the continent?:)

NEILZ
30-12-2008, 16:45
As far as i know a few pounds bigger than our current record, might be wrong though

lawman
30-12-2008, 16:46
I believe they have had instances of bigger ones than that...

Mr_Bump
30-12-2008, 16:51
Reuben Heaton would not be able to sell scales that were not accurate to the same degree across the entire scale.

Each check point has to be within a set limit or the unit is not saleable.

You will not get a set of scales that is accurate at one end of the scale but not the other. (gauge calibrator to 0.5% ;))

If I wanted a weight accurate to 1oz, then yes I would be more than happy.

Knowing the design and construction of such gauges gives me 100% confidence in them.

If I wanted a weight accurate to less than an ounce I would use scales with smaller divisions.

NEILZ

What am i getting???

Shrop
30-12-2008, 19:47
The fact that I would be, as many others will be, to weigh a 6lb Perch, 10lb Bream, 7lb Tench, 2lb Rudd, 3lb Roach on a set of 60lb Reuben Heaton Specimen Hunter scales to the nearest oz. with 100% certainty that the weight will be spot on. Rant over!

sadly yes

maybe weighted with landing net, kitchen sink etc seen some very iffy weighing taken place in the past
personaly use the 12x1/2 weighmasters, my 15lb chub just about pulled them around lol

Well now a 7lb Perch ? It is possible but is likely ? On the scales question i use a set of Reubens that are 30lb and weigh the same as the 60lb version but in half ounce divisions .
The Perch in Oz are much bigger than over here , sevens are quite common i'm told and they are the same species as ours . There Tench record is over 20lb as well !

tincataylor
31-12-2008, 00:14
Neilz , the guy asks what the current perch record is not if there is such a thing as a perch record
I also blame Mr Hearn for the current surge of interest in fishing for perch by the way

Surely nothing to do with a capture of a 7lb Perch ! same old same old....

My own feelings are that a 7lb perch or bigger is certainly a big possiblity from many waters.....

You only have to look at the many under fished big pits in the country and as for the Thames you can fish it all your life and only just scrape the surface of what it contains.....

Fingers crossed for the guy that has caught it and well done if is verified.

exkingsmeadchef

I know it would have a shorter wheelbase so too speak and the weight would be more in the belly rather than length but as this 7lb Zander shows that would be one hell of a Perch....

I've seen pics of perch to 9lb odd and have heard of doubles from germany. Same species, similar climate and growing periods (probably less due to no gulf stream).

If our perch don't go into decline like has happened in the past I expect the record to climb above 7. Not sure if this is that fish, but I believe they may be out there.

I'm sure back in about mid 80's when i was fishing linch hill, a 6lb perch got put into willow pool. This fish came from Rough grounds a lake out at lechlade opposite horseshoe. This was NOT caught on rod and line, I think the lake got drained and filled in so the carp and the "perch" got stocked in to linch, i might be way off the mark but i will ask the person in question in the next couple of weeks and confirm the weight.

I came across this post by accident
Yeah I remember this the perch was 6lb 4oz it got netted out of rough grounds and put in willow poll. The great peter stone released it into willow and then Alan Wilson (tench record holder) sat on the lake for months trying to catch it but it was never seen again. When amey sold rough grounds and horse shoe they netted them both and put the lot in lynch hill. That's where the massive bream that came out of Christ church and stone acre came from as well as loads of quality roach.

There was a 7lb 11oz world record perch in this weeks angling times. I think it was from holland somewhere by some lure champion who is sponsered by shimano. He broke the world record twice in two weeks supposidly.
